How to use Metallic pastels in jewellery

One of WGSN’s key trends for 2024 is Metallics colours and finishes. The colour palette has metallic pastels on side and metallic darks on the other. Though the colours would look absolutely divine as eyeliners, they can be pretty great in jewellery too. Here are several ways to incorporate metallic pastels in jewellery.

How to use Metallic pastels in jewellery

While pastels for summer is a no brainner, pastel colours in jewellery are increasingly popular this year replacing the traditional jewel tones. I have been using a lot of pastel colours as well as you can see in my post on Image transfer necklaces.

Mixed Media

Combine different materials such as leather, fabric, paper or wood, to create mixed media jewellery in the colour of your choice.

Beads

Use metallic pastel-colored beads or gemstones to create vibrant and eye-catching jewellery pieces. Beads with a metallic finish can include pastel shades like rose gold, champagne, or pale silver. Use fire polished glass or crystals beads, Aura quartz or glass beads with an AB finish (Aurora Borealis) if you want more colour with a subtle sheen.

Wirework and Metal Components

You can incorporate pastel-coloured annodised aluminum or niobium wires to your designs. Coloured artisan wire can also be used to create components. Stay away from complex weaves and intricate wrappings that may strach the surface of the wires and you will have a stunning piece of wire jewellery.

Incorporate Pastel-Colored Gemstones

Use natural or lab-created stones in metallic pastel shades as focal points in your jewellery. Stones like morganite, aquamarine, or rose quartz can add a touch of elegance to your designs.

Enamels

Enameling involves fusing powdered glass onto metal surfaces. You can create beautiful pastel tones with metallic finishes using enameling techniques. Consider using pastel pinks (Gulabi meena), powder blues, or light violets for a soft and elegant look. The Ek rang khula meena is a transparent, pastel enamel technique used in meenakari (Indian Enamelling).

Resin Casting

Incorporate metallic pastel pigments or mica powders into resin for casting custom jewellery pieces. Resin allows for versatility in shapes and designs, and the metallic pastels can create a stunning, glossy finish. Alternatively, you can colour the surface with tints and washes from Vintaj and seal them using resin.

Painting and Patinas

Apply metallic pastel-coloured paints or patinas to metal surfaces. This can be done on various metal components, such as pendants, charms, or connectors, to achieve a soft and subtle metallic pastel look.

Polymer Clay

Use pastel-coloured polymer clay to create beads, pendants, or components for earrings and bracelets. Polymer clay also allows for blending different colours to achieve unique metallic pastel shades.

I hope you find it interesting

Cheers
