Jewellery for Honey do List

For the past two two years due to the dual nature of my day job that includes an admin role, I have not made much jewellery. At this point it is a costly hobby which that does not motivate me . But since it is the year end and I wanted a break from other responsibilities, I made some jewellery. Sarajo’s post provided the inspiration. Here are my bead necklaces as entries for the December 2023 Honey do List challenge.

December 2023 Honey do List challenge

Every month for the past eight years, Sarajo’s husband Eric, has been giving her an inspiration image for her jewellery design. It is typically a photograph that they during their various travels. She then shares the picture with the jewellery making world, encouraging us to participate along with her. I have participated in several of them over the years.

This month’s inspiration is a picture of handmade Czech glass ornaments drying. The simplest interpretation would have been a knotted bead necklace or a necklace of bigger beads with seed bead spacers. However, I chose to try other ideas.

Dholki bead necklace

Two of the things that struck me in the inspiration image were metallic glass shapes, especially those in silver and gold. There were also these conical, bicone like beads. I combined them to make a short necklace of Dholki beads that were leftover after an order. Dholki are traditional metal (usually silver or gold) hollow beads. However, those I used are made of iron and plated in gold and silver colours. I used glass and acrylic beads to finish the necklace.

Serial lights necklace

We have a Christmas tree up at work, which is typically lit with yellow lights. So when I think of Christmas tree and lights, a yellow serial light is what comes to mind. This necklace is inspired by Serial LED lights and I used bead crochet to make it. Its a simple chain that can be worn when you need a pop of colour. Look to the extreme right in the inspiration image if you want to spot yellow glass crystals. However, they are more of an orangish yellow.

Stacked earrings

After making two necklaces, I wanted to make a pair of earrings. I noticed three different greens in the inspiration image and wanted to knot green beads together. However, I did not have beads in the exact shades. So I picked beads that I had in four different greens – serpentine, glass and crystals. I made a pair of knotted stacked earrings. This is the first time that I have tried this technique and I like how it has turned out.

These may not be the most creative of designs but they were exactly the kind of low pressure, holiday crafting that I needed. Do head over to Sarajo’s blog to see what she has created for her December Honey Do list.

I hope you find it interesting

Cheers

This year I didn’t do a single challenge, so I almost envy you 🙂 I love the serial lights necklace but you nailed it with all the designs. Knotting has been on my mind for some time as I have a stash of cords and earrings look like a good idea because of the lesser wear and tear.

I envy your dedication in making jewellery consistently this year. I avoid knotting as I feels that the cords sag when worn. But I still try from time to time to see what else I can do with it. Also, knotting is currently a trending jewellery making technique after casting.
