How to Pair Gemstone Rings with Indian wedding wear

pair your gemstone ring with wedding outfits

Indian weddings are when you can see a lot of colour and character. The outfits, jewellery, food, and decor makes it colourful and lively. It is when men and women show off their wondrous emeralds, sapphires and ruby jewellery along with their resplendent silks, particularly when they are attending a close relative’s wedding. Though decking up can be fun, it can also be overwhelming to decide what to wear to relative’s wedding especially when the choices are aplenty. With my little sister’s (Cousin’s) wedding coming up, I am, myself in the process of deciding my outfits for various functions an I am super confused. So I asked designer Jinal Sampat for tips on How to Pair Gemstone Rings with Indian Wedding Outfits. Here they are.

As a guest at a wedding, you do not want your outfit to be too flashy but still you want to look regal.  The best way to do that is to accessorize with gemstone rings or gemstone jewellery. Gemstone rings add some much more color and character to any outfit. However, you don’t have to go all matchy – matchy. The beauty of gemstone jewellery pieces is best reflected if they complement the outfit rather than being an exact match. To help you with your choices, here are examples of wedding outfits styled with gemstone rings.

For the Traditional at heart

How to Pair Gemstone Rings with your Indian Wedding Outfits?

1. Yellow Sapphire Gemstone Rings

I am going to start with the basics. A classic Yellow sapphire ring  is a versatile piece. It would match with most Indian outfits as they would invariably have some gold accent as a embroidery or a print on them. However, for a modern twist, try a yellow sapphire ring with white gold. Gemstones in yellow are a great compliment to the traditional gold jewellery that you might already have. They can effectively be paired with most fresh, bright color outfits whether they are sarees, fit and flare kurtas or simple day lehenghas. Choose outfits in silk or cotton jacquard, brocades or plain silks for a rich look.

2. Ruby Ring

The color red has a lot significance in Indian culture and especially weddings. The name ruby comes from the Latin word ruber, which means “red.” It was believed wearing a fine red ruby bestows good fortune on its owner. Thus red is considered very auspicious and a color of new beginnings.

When it comes to fashion and pairing it with wedding outfits, there are two things you need to keep in mind. A ruby ring can be worn with warm hues such as red, orange, yellow, magenta. The ring will also look fabulous with pastel colors like cream, light gray, and pink. Depending on what the bride is wearing, you can dress up in brights or pastels so as to not take away attention from her.

For the young and experimental

1. Pink Sapphire Ring for Light Coloured Clothing:

Heading to a prewedding haldi – mehendi event? Or a summer wedding wearing delicately embroidered cottons, chiffons and mul? Wearing pastels like cream, pink, light teal for the event? Then Pink sapphire is the right choice. The fact that its an uncommon ethnic jewellery choice makes it a desirable gemstone from fashion point of view. You could even wear pink enamelled jewelry (so hot right now!) with the pink sapphire ring to create the look within your budget.

2. Amethyst Ring with embroidered outfits

Amethyst is a gemstone of mystery and romance. It’s feminine and represents strength and confidence. Amethyst is violet color gemstone that will look fabulous with outfits that have modern cuts. It can be paired with analogous colours like blues, blue violets and red violets or magentas and pinks. It would also look great with complementary yellows and split complementary yellow oranges. Pair it with embroidered outfits  and minimise other jewellery.

For the Sophisticated fashionistas

1. Emerald Ring with both sarees and cocktail dresses

Green is a perfect color for weddings as it will match with most of your traditional and modern outfits. Emerald is considered to be be a gemstone of romance and mystery. Wear emerald  jewellery get in gold with a red and green saree for the wedding and look your traditional best. Emerald  (set in white gold) also looks great with cocktail dresses or evening wear sarees in dark green, black or gray. This could be a great look for pre wedding bashes, cocktail events or even the wedding reception.

2. Blue Sapphire Ring With Sophisticated Outfits:

Blue sapphire is a gorgeous expensive gemstone that help you stand a class apart from the crowd. It looks great with elegant sophisticated outfits. So choose clothes that has minimal or tone on tone embroidery if possible. Make sure to not overpower this look with many colors since the sapphire will not stand out. Though black is not a wedding colour, people are increasingly wearing navy blue and black for receptions and cocktail events. A contrasting soft yellow, black, navy, white, or silver are my colour picks for this gemstone.

Below are the key takeaways from this post:

I guess now there is an explosion of color around the world more than ever. Like you pointed out many are taking to rich jewel tones like emerald and purple in the west as evening wear if not for weddings
