5 Best Jewellery at Oscars 2023

As a Fashion designer, I look forward to seeing what celebrities wear on the red carpet. The academy awards, Emmys, and Golden globes offer a treat like no other showing the finest couture garments, accessories and jewellery. Though I miss watching the televised version of such award ceremonies due to the time difference, I make it a point to catch the press coverage and video of the events to see who wore what. Yesterday was the 95th Academy awards ceremony and beyond ogling at the jewellery worn at Oscars 2023, I also wished for an Indian nomination to win. While several Indians, such as Bhanu Athaiya (1982), Satyajit Ray (1992), Resul Pookutty and AR Rahman in 2008, have won the Oscars, they have not been for Indian productions. Therefore, I am elated that we won not one but two awards.

Academy Award winners from India

Elephant Whisperers is a story about a couple Bellie and Bomman, and a baby elephant Raghu set in Tamil Nadu. It won the Best Documentary Short Film award, the first ever Oscar for an Indian Production and for a Tamil film. This short film is directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga.

The second is the song “Naatu Naatu” from the Telugu movie RRR by AA Rajamouli, which won the best original song. RRR is a fictional period film based on real life Indian Freedom fighters. This song which portrays the stamina needed for folk (country) dance also won the Golden Globe for the best song. MM Keravani, the music director and Chandrabose, the Lyricist accepted the award. However, the award belongs to the film director who envisaged it and the two male leads – Ram Charan and Jr NTR who performed fantastically in it. It also goes to the team who mounted a campaign that led to the song being nominated for international awards.

When the singers of the song Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava performed live with local dancers dancing on stage, the audience gave it a standing ovation. If you are yet to see the song, hear it or dance to it, here is the video for you. In Deepika Padukone’s words “Do you know Naatu? Because if you don’t, you’re about to.

Setting aside the irony of being happy at an American award for a movie about Indian nationalism and freedom struggle, let me move to the jewellery portion of the Oscars.

5 Best Jewellery at Oscars 2023

Here are images and details of the five best jewellery pieces that I personally liked. All images are from Getty Images Entertainment and Getty Images.

…and the Oscar goes to

If I could choose any piece of jewellery at the Oscars 2023, I would choose Tiffany & Co. diamond and platinum necklace worn by Florence Pugh. Its got diamonds, curvilinear forms and has the lift of a starched ruffle. Ooff! On a side note – yes, I dislike her attire, her earrings and the nose ring but I still love the necklace.

The emeralds in this Choppard necklace that Sofia Carson is wearing is just yum. The octagonal stones look like jelly bites to me. the necklace which is from the Haute Joaillerie Collection collection has emeralds totaling 122.49 carats and 92.57 carats of diamonds. If I look past the necklace that has pear-shaped, marquise cut, baguette cut and round shaped diamonds, then I am a fool.

My third choice would be the pear shaped yellow sapphire pendant and diamond Cartier necklace that Deepika Padukone wore owing to its timeless look.

Another must lust item is the Serpentini necklace from Bulgari High Jewellery worn by Cara Delevingne. The only reason that it is so low on the list is because it is a choker necklace that fits like a collar. I will share my dislike of chokers in the next post. The other serpentine necklace that tempted me to a large extent was worn by Angela Bassett.

I did not know who Fan Bingbing was when I spotted her floating down the red carpet in her silver gown and emerald earrings. Ofcourse, I wanted the earrings as they would be a perfect match to both the Choppard as well as the Bulgari necklace.

Those are my best five pieces of jewellery at the Oscars 2023. Watching these beautiful women “Out bling” each other made my day. I imagined myself looking at, selecting and wearing these beautiful pieces of jewellery and in those moments felt like a queen.

Did you watch the awards ceremony or the red carpet telecast? If so, which is your favourite piece of jewellery? Tell me in the comments.

I hope you find it interesting
Cheers

I did not watch any of the Oscars or see press about it, so I enjoyed seeing your jewelry picks. I certainly agree with all of them! Years ago, I got to see a large exhibit of Cartier jewelry traveling around to museums. I just loved seeing all of those beautiful jewels up close. This reminded me of that. Thanks for a great post!

The jewelry is stunning! I was also impressed by the brooches some men were wearing 🙂

Oh yes, They were stunning and so were several other earrings that I saw. But these five are my personal favourites.

You skipped the guy at the “red”/beige carpet who had THE most fantastic huge dangly brooch. I wish I’d taken a screen shot. He wore it on what looked like a cut velvet tuxedo. I had no idea who he was.

Are you referring to Ram Charan in a velvet mandarin collar jacket wearing a medallion brooch? Or perhaps Michael B Jordon in a Tux wearing one pink and one green brooch? They were good but they did not make it to my must-lust list.

Nope, neither of them. It was a multicolor brooch with large “stones”. I never saw him after the red/beige carpet pre-Oscars. But they kept showing him in the pre-game show (so to speak).
