This year, I participated in the “New York City Jewelry week” for the second time. Apart from the AdornAxis Group exhibition, I also participated in a virtual stand-alone exhibition Handpicked. My work and I, have been featured on the NYCJW22 Discover page. The Discover section of the “NYC jewelry week” website was initially a promotional page for both new and established jewellery brands. However, for the week, the organizers have specially redesigned the page as a sort of gallery to feature independent jewellery makers and designers who have applied for NYCJW22 and cater to its theme – Joy/Human connection.
Here are some of my favourites from the Discover page.

One of my favourite things to do with wire is to make squiggles and press them down to make a piece. I have made earrings, rings and pendants using this technique. So it is no wonder that I was attracted to Jariet Oloyé‘s sculptural wire jewellery. I hate using oxymorons. However, Oloyé’s jewellery is just that – ornate and minimal at the same time. Francesca Corradini’s wire wrapped bangles and bracelets also spoke to me. I related to her approach to making – where she experiments with the material instead of sketching, which is how I work as well.
Everything mycelian has been trending for the past two years in various sectors and its popularity is yet to decline. Working with the Mushroom imagery is Hee-ang Kim from Seoul, Korea.
Hands down, my favourite of the lot is Xinyi Chen, a designer from China and the founder of EÈ CHAN. She creatively repurposes electronic components by setting them like gemstones in her work. Her mission to spread joy by using e-waste in jewellery is not just noble but also super fun!
I found Chloe Valorso‘s ephemeral jewellery unique. Since these are photographic compositions of jewellery with various effects it appealed to the communication designer in me. Last but not the least is Aurianna’ Sown seed bead earrings that are bright, beautiful and beaded.
While the the Discover page features 27 artists and designers, I discovered and I am in the process of discovering some fabulous makers via NYCJW22. I hope you discover some new artists too.
I hope that you find it interesting.
Cheers
