I am happy to announce that my series titled Handpicked is being featured at NYCJW22. This is the second time that I am participating in NYCJW (New York City Jewelry week). 2021 was my first year as a participant, and second year as attendee when I exhibited my “Jewelry in Narratives” project. This year I am participating with Handpicked which is an independent exhibition of art jewellery and the group exhibition by AdornAxis gallery. You can read about the War series that I am exhibiting in the AdornAxis Here&Now exhibition here.
NYCJW22
The New York City Jewelry week runs from the 14th to the 20th of November. In the past two years, there were a lot of virtual events, with 2020 being fully virtual. However, this year the focus is on in-person events happening in New York City. This is the fifth anniversary of the week and hence there are a lot of industry leaders who are participating in it. How I wish I lived there and could attend all in-person events. Nevertheless, I plan to attend as many of the 25 virtual talks/panels/shows as possible. You can find the virtual talks on their Youtube handle. There may be more events and virtual programmes and listed on the Discover page along with mine.
Handpicked at NYCJW22
Handpicked is a series of picture jewellery, photo jewellery to be precise. It celebrates making (by hand) and hence epitomises the human hand. I love working with my hands to create a product from an idea that I conceived. Even though the handprints are erased during finishing and polishing, I know in my heart, as a maker that I have left enough of myself in the object to connect with another human – a wearer, a viewer who will use, love, wear and appreciate what I have made. Handpicked is a project that exemplifies this sense of joy and human connection. By enshrining the photographs of hands in votive-like structures, the process of making is equated to that of prayer.
The Handpicked exhibition page is now live. Do check it out and tell me what you think about it.

I hope that you find it interesting.
