Dhathu Collection – Parrots

Parrots were the cynosure of the Dhathu collection. In all of the traditional Indian motifs, parrots are slightly uncommon though they provide for fascinating form and color inspiration. Here in this collection, I have created 3 different pieces inspired by parrots, but to give it a twist, I took the form (shape and design) from the Kalamkari style of art and added the details with Vintaj patina inks.

The Parrot talk (above) necklace is slightly domed and textured which is visible if you look closely. I love that it looks like feathers. I also did some folding at the tail to enhance the 3D look.
These are my most favourite pieces of the collection- especially the Suka necklace (below), which I consider to be the master piece of this collection. I made three of these, first one was a totally experimental one – it started out as a cuff bangle and slowly became a necklace 🙂 I initially tried using pearls or gemstones with it, but ultimately went with simple translucent glass beads in pink and green. It was an instant hit!! so I made two more. The cutting is really complicated as there are many curves and they have to be absolutely smooth and the necks were the hardest portions (I cut with metal shears and not saw)

I made the second piece with slightly darker shade of green and darker pink beads with a little more detailing (1st image above). So after all that hard work I thought that I deserved to keep atleast one piece in this spectacular collection for myself and I kept the third one with light pink beads for myself.

At the end of it all, a normal piece of my brass sheet was left, so I quickly shaped out some corners and made this cute mini parrot from it. What can I say, I dont like to waste anything 🙂 Even though the size is small, it took almost the same time and effort like the big ones, which sadly most customers dont understand.
I like the bright color combo (of green and pink) and the attention grabbing focal parrots, what do you think? The first parrot talk necklace and last mini parrot necklace are still available for sale

I hope you find it interesting
Cheers
