Dhathu collection – Leaves

Here is the second installment of Dhathu – my metal jewellery collection. For those of you who are new here, Dhathu means both metal and root of all life so I have created a collection of jewelry keeping both these meanings in mind. You can read about my previous post on peacock themed jewelry here and about the design process of the collection here
In this post I would like to showcase all my designs from this collection which have been derived from Leaves. The first two are from Dhathu I which comprises of handmade metal components, sketched, hand cut and formed by me and in the latter two (from Dhathu:II) I have used store bought components

Leaf earrings
Leaf earrings:  This is one of the first pieces I made as I wanted to try cutting easy organic shapes before venturing to complicated ones. For this design I abstracted banyan leaves, form folded the pieces, applied and blended patina inks and glazed them. The form folding gave definition to the veins and I used a thin ball chain to highlight the central vein of the leaf.
Lotus leaves necklace
Lotus leaves necklace: I have a foam lotus with leaf in my living room and its so beautiful that everytime I look at it I feel inspired to create something. This necklace is my attempt to recreate the same feeling. Inspired by the transient nature of Lotus leaves, this necklace in 30g brass has been hand cut, textured, shaped and styled with patina inks and beads. Each leaf is unique in pattern, yet they complement each other so well. This was my third attempt with form folding and I think that its one of the easiest way to texture a metal blank I also love how I was able to create the “water on lotus leaf” sort of feeling here using glaze.

Peepal leaves Necklace: A half and half necklace of gold color and off white dyed shell beads with the focus being the brass peepal pendant with patina inks. I tried blocthing technique here and I think that works well especially when the base has some sort of texture – in this case lines

Triple golden leaf necklace:  I also wanted to create a simple piece that didnt involve any patina. So I choose three golden color metal leaves and sort of stitched them up together with wire. This is my favourite cold connections technique. The crystals used I think just add the right amount of bling.

Those were the four leaf based designs in the collection, what do you think of them?

I hope you find it interesting
Cheers

Looove the first two especially! The color came out gorgeous, and the forms are so organic. The ball chain is the coolest accent!
