My sister and I are fabric kundan earrings. We were made by our maker with bits of fabric, MDF bases, metal findings and lots of glue-on rhinestones. She made us one afternoon, after watching way too many jewellery tutorial reels on Instagram. To make us, she cut bits of fabric and glued them to MDF bases she already had on hand. She made one of us round and short and the other tall and pear shaped. Maybe, she wanted to emphasise that beautiful women come in all shapes and sizes.
She bought teardrop shaped kundan rhinestones to ornament us. On one of us, she glued the rhinestone cup chain around the circumference and on the other, she made a circle at the center. One of us has a metal stud and the other has a stud post glued on to the back of the MDF. We are still dangle earrings though we each dangle quite differently. We think that she was trying to give us different personalities.
My sister, the blue is the serious one and I, green is the fun one. I move more, have more colours and my skirt has pearl tassels.
We are both different fabric kundan earrings – we look and behave differently. But we both pair effortlessly with sarees, lehengas, salwar suits, and contemporary fusion outfits. We are perfect for all day long celebrations such as weddings, festivals or special occasions as we are lightweight. We work both during the day as well as at night, catching both your eye as well as the light.
At the end of the day, we are well made, well-behaved earrings. We have a shiny front and a soft felt backing. If you like us, take us home. We love making friends. You could also ask our maker to make more fabric kundan earrings in colours of your choice. We are sure, that she would oblige.
