Christmas Earrings

In the past there have been times when I do have any new work to post on the blog. Then there have been times when I have a lot to show and say but cannot seem to write, edit and post. This has been one of those instances. I have been doing some holiday cleaning, not at home but in the drafts folder of my blog, finding baubles to clean up and display. You can see a few such baubles – earrings in this post in rich burgundies and pale greens making them Christmas earrings for a casual day out after the celebrations.

I was shopping for some cords to add to a kit last month and I chanced upon mixed bags of aluminum beads in various colours. I picked two, one in pale green and the other in dark red. When I received the beads I was thrilled by the different shapes, the quality of the beads, and how light weight they were. I even found a couple of burgundy beads in the red mix, begging to be made into earrings immediately. Thus, the Christmas earrings were born.

I stacked flute beads in pale green over gold bead caps and the faceted burgundy beads making them looking like Christmas tree decorations. The gold makes it more wearable with my day-to-day outfits without remaining seasonal.

For the second pair, I intercepted two different kinds of fluted red beads with a flattened bicone bead, saucer. I love the play of shapes – teardrop, chandelier and saucer that create a tree-like silhouette. It is a bit “Christmasy” but I like it.

The third pair of Christmas earrings does not use aluminum beads. Rather, it uses metal components that I coloured and domed using UV resin. I used markers to colour and surprisingly the colours held. The aluminum beads did not go with the resin component. Therefore, I used glass pearls and beadcaps, with beadcaps being the operative word as it stretches across all three designs.

I generated greeting cards using the three earrings for fun using ChatGPT and I think that they look rather festive. But I wonder what my eight-year-old self who hand painted cards would say about them.

Wishing you the greetings of the season, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

May this festive season be filled with warmth, reflection, and stories that shine.
Jewels worn close, remembered always.
Wishing you joy and sparkle, this festive season.

I hope you find it interesting

Cheers
