Bloom for 17th Anniversary

bloom necklaces

The nineteenth of October marks the day of Sayuri’s launch as a brand. As the seventeenth anniversary is to be celebrated with a fusion of ideas, the colours – yellow, red and orange along with a sprinkle of carnations and carnelians, I present to you my latest collection of necklaces – Bloom, inspired by all of the above and more.

Bloom – Impressionist flower necklaces for 17th Anniversary

Bloom, came to life at my mother’s insistence. She wanted a new range to show to some friends of hers and pushed me to think of a collection. I was dragging my feet for months and eventually had less than a week to complete it. Therefore, I used or reused things that I had at hand – beads, cut metal shapes and paint. Initially, I thought about painting water colour roses. But then I was inspired by Impressionist paintings of flowers or those that had flowers in them. Bloom is inspired by the dreamy poppies fields and the whimsical irises that the impressionists painted.

If you are wondering how to create jewellery based on an inspiration board, check out my article here.

Inspiration for Bloom

En Plein Air is the French term for “outdoors,” describing the Impressionists’ practice of painting outside. I wanted my pieces to have the same fresh feeling and look effortless. I did not paint the flowers in Impressionist style. However, I drew from the philosophy of creating vivid images based on sensorial experience. Here is Bloom for your viewing and shopping pleasure. All the pieces are for sale.

Poppies and Peonies

The first piece is of flowers blooming in a sandy garden. The a red-orange macrame cord necklace has a Dokra bead centre. The 2.5 inch round textured brass pendant has been hand painted with red peonies and green leaves and has been sealed for a durable finish.

Rose garden

A vase of roses or rose garden were common impressionist themes. They portrayed soft pink roses with dark green leaves on a dark blue background or a blue vase. This necklace , inspired by these roses is made of an assortment of lampwork beads, glass crystals and frosted glass beads (aura beads). The pendant is pure copper and gets darker with patina.

Smiling Sunflowers

As I am a fan of Van Gogh, sunflowers were a must for this collection. For my they signify intelligence, confidence and happiness. It is a grown-up flower in my opinion. This piece has a painted, form folded copper pendant with faceted yellow glass crystals. The vibrancy is augmented by the yellow teardrop beads and golden balls. The pendant is about 3 inches wide and falls at the chest level.

If the one above is for those who like small beads and large pendants, the bottom one is for those who prefer the reverse. As sunflowers and dahlia’s peak through the pendant, the yellow-orange beads necklace speckled with red seed beads will definitely lift up your mood. This is a short necklace with a 1.25 inch pendant.

Field of Irises

I created this necklace inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s irises which are symbols of hope and mental health. Did you know that Van Gogh’s Irises were originally purple but as the red-violet paint faded away, it became blue? While my necklace has light and dark teal beads combined with those in gold and blue-violet, look carefully to see purple strokes in the painting and in the glimmer of the beads. This is short necklace with a 2 inch teardrop pendant.

Disclaimer: All the model images are AI generated (Gemini.ai) and edited. They are for representative purposes only. The original jewellery is shorter and pendants are atleast 0.5″ to 0.75″ smaller as compared to the model images

Being my own muse

I rarely design an entire collection for myself or based on my likes and dislikes. But Bloom has a lot of my personal favourites. It has glass beads, painted flowers, hand cut metal, and an effective reuse of components. While the models do not look anything like I do, they wear my favourite solid or self design chiffon sarees and have thick, long black hair. Further, they have clear skin and wear almost no makeup, the way that I would like to be.

Who is this collection for?

All the Sayuri women – who else?

But if I were to be specific they are for the women who protect their softness, their femininity like the gift it is. They do not do anything for a show, but know how to put on a show if and when needed. Simple things and moments give them happiness.

Bloom is a reminder for women to blossom, grow, and thrive wherever you are, whatever your circumstances. It is to remember that different flowers bloom at different times.

So listen to Miley, and buy yourself some flowers and yes, take yourself dancing.

Remember that the world is waiting for you, to see you bloom.

I hope you find it interesting and tell me what do you think about the collection in the comments.

Cheers

  1. You have taken flower jewelry not one but several steps up! Unique hand painted focals in individually designed combos with thoughtfully chosen beads – both feminine and bold, as you described it. I feel happy for you that you made this collection. It’s hard and unfair to pick a favorite but for me it’s the irises.

    1. Thank you. The Irises was a new colour combination for me but it turned out well.
