Berunda or Gandaberunda is a mythical two-headed bird which is a form of Lord Narasimha. It is an embodiment of strength capable of overpowering even the fiercest force. The intricate form, with two eagle-like heads facing opposite directions, expansive wings, and often elaborate ornamentation, provides designers with a rich palette for artistic exploration as you would see in the Gandaberunda earrings in this post. The regal connotations of the motif, make it a favorite choice for bridal and festive attire, where the wearer embodies the same strength and resilience that the bird represents. For this reason, the motif is often represented in silk sarees. You can find more about Gandaberunda here and the collection of Bherunda necklaces here.
Gandaberunda earrings
The Gandaberunda is a commonly found motif in jewellery made in Karnataka. The traditional pieces are often stone studded and heavy, in both appearance as well as weight. However, the Gandaberunda earrings that I have made with digital illustrations of the bird are light weight statement making studs.
Bherunda earrings collection
Unlike my previous collections where I offer only 1 piece per design, here I have created multiple colour ways of this design. The colours are blue, green, maroon and black and two pieces are available per colour The black has two stud options – crosshatch and lotus leaf. The studs are plated stainless steel.
I wanted to give as many unique options within a set of limited designs. Therefore, a few of the bezels have a matt finish and a few of them have a gloss finish. Peruse through the images in this post and shop your favourite pieces at Coolture designs. I made a black pair for myself and got plenty of compliments the times that I wore them.
