Earlier this year, I created jewellery and styled a fashion show for an Indian Women’s casual wear brand. I made pearl choker necklaces and Fabric and lace earrings for the show. Here are the fabric and lace earrings that I made.
Fabric and lace earrings
Since the collection on the ramp was everyday attire, the head designer of the brand and I wanted to elevate the look with accessories and jewellery. One of the first ideas that I had when I saw the clothes was to make big fabric earrings. Since the clothes were in pastel colours and used a lot of lace, I had an idea to combine them as earrings. Therefore, for seven models, I made a pair of earrings with the fabric of the top that she was wearing.
The inspiration for the earrings came from a length of lace that the brand add. It was a strip of rectangular lace. However, if you snip away the border and the connections, it looked circular. It was perfect to embellish round earrings.
Here’s how I made them
I made seven pairs of earrings. Two of them had metal frames that the brand that picked up. I found these very difficult to work with as the frame was soldered in places and I could not get the finish that I wanted. Therefore, after making two pairs this way, I made the rest without frames.
I cut cardboard circles which I covered with the required fabric. Then I stuck a piece of lace on them. I finished the back using a circle of felt matching the colour of the fabric. In some of the pairs, I added pearls to match the necklaces. In others, I added metal charms, little jhumkas and connectors to make them look impressive on the ramp.
On the seventh pair, I did not use lace as the garment did not have any embroidery or lace work on it. I used patina ink on the metal frame to mimic the stripes on the dress.
Though it was a lot of work in a very short time, I had fun making these earrings. While seeing them being worn on the runway made me happy, making them gave me joy. I wish I made more jewellery.
Check out all the fabric earrings that I have made in the past here. The fabric and lace earrings in this post are not for sale.
I hope you find it interesting
