One of my favourite styles of bracelets (and necklaces) is a tennis bracelet. I remember buying a Tennis bracelet with rhinestones during my first visit to a mall as a teen which I wore well into my 20s. At the present, I have a couple of rhinestone chokers in a similar style. However, a tennis bracelet with diamonds is still on my wish list and hopefully, I will get one soon. In the meanwhile, let me tell you what a tennis bracelet is and why I like it.
What Is a Tennis Bracelet?
A tennis bracelet is a piece of jewellery that features a row of diamonds held together by precious metal prongs in bezel cups. Typically matching diamonds of the same clarity, colour, shape, and size are used. The term “tennis bracelet” became popular because of tennis sensation, Chris Evert. The player lost her linked diamond bracelet mid-match during the 1987 US Open tennis championship. She stopped the game to look for the bracelet and from there on it was considered the tennis bracelet.
D is for Diamond bracelet
Although the original tennis bracelets were made of round natural diamonds, they have evolved to incorporate cubic zirconia, lab diamonds, and even coloured gemstones. Due to the noughties trend of late 2021 seeping into 2022, tennis bracelets made of cubic zirconia and lab diamonds have been super on-trend. So, we have seen a huge amount of creativity in diamond shapes, colours, and gemstones. An in-depth comparison between cubic zirconia and a lab diamond, reveals that the latter has the same hardness as natural diamonds but is synthesized in a lab.
Styles of Tennis Bracelets
This incredible piece of jewellery comes in a lot of variations. And there are several styles of tennis bracelet to consider. Read on to find your preferred style and setting!
1.Prong Set
The prong set tennis bracelet is one of the most iconic styles of the diamond bracelet. It offers an impressive balance of beauty and security.
In this setting, metal prongs are used to hold the diamonds in place. Typically four prongs will be used by the jeweller in each basket. The higher the number of prongs, the more secured the stones. Smaller diamond carats can be in a three-prong set. But, larger diamond carats could be more secured with four or more prongs.
2. Bezel Set
With a bezel set diamond bracelet, each diamond is set individually with the metal surrounding the girdle of the diamonds. A full bezel setting has a circle mount holding each diamond, whereas a half bezel setting has a half-circle mount securing the individual diamonds.
This setting would be especially beautiful in rose gold or yellow. Furthermore, a bezel setting also makes the stones look a little bit bigger. So, you can go down on the carat weight and still have that amplified size and look.
3. Channel Set
A channel set tennis bracelet is classic yet versatile. It can easily go from a bridal party to a boardroom. Each diamond is precisely cut to fit into the metal channel. While princess and baguette cuts are typically used, you can experiment with other cuts of diamonds are well.
Channel bracelets provide a clean line of sparkle or colour making them elegant.
4. Pave Set
Pave is the French word for paving. In this setting, the metal is paved in and set with gems. Therefore, the piece looks like it has been covered with gems with very little metal in between. With this style, you can optimize a lot of tiny stones (melee) and reduce your expense of buying solitaries. While it offers a blingy look, it is my least favourite when it comes to styles of tennis bracelets.
5. Multi Row
The multi-row style has either two or more rows. The double row design gives the bracelet that extra wow factor. It also gives you the look of stacking with the convenience and ease of wear of one clasp. Whether you want a princess cut or a simple round, multi-row tennis bracelets will look truly spectacular. This is also a good way to sort of amplifying` the look of a diamond tennis bracelet.
6. Coloured Stones
The latest offering of tennis bracelets is colour. Tennis bracelets studded with gemstones in colour look unique and interesting.
You could wear an entire stack of rainbow colours on your wrist. You can use birthstones or get bracelets customised according to your favourite colours. A tutti-fruti with gemstones such as diamonds, emeralds, sapphire, and ruby with be stunning.
Those were the main six styles of Tennis bracelets. If I had to chose I would chose either a round prong/basket or a coloured channel. Which of them is your favourite.?
I hope you find it interesting
Cheers
