Looped bead necklaces SS20

bead jewellery

I wanted to use the lock down period to create pieces that are different from my style of jewellery making. I am a stringer and typically use beads bright colours made up of various materials in a single piece. For my SS20 collection, I have focused on looping as you can see here. These Looped bead necklaces are playful, simpler than my usual pieces and mostly made of glass beads. See the part one of this post in the link above.

Since these pieces were made during the lockdown, I couldn’t go out and buy beads or findings. This was a blessing in disguise, as I looked at the beads and components that I had and figured out how to put them together in in ways I had not already tried. Many UFOs were used, some modified and clasps whose existence I had completely forgotten about made a big impact. While the colour combos are those I have employed before, the bead patterns are new. I hope that you will enjoy the simplicity of these pieces.

Dark Marble

Altered mixed media marbled pendant with looped glass beads in greens and black. I have played with patterns in the pendant, striped and fluted beads. The top layer of the pendant can be  scratched so it needed to be handled with care. For sale with complimentary earrings.

Black beauty

Pendants have been a staple in my necklaces and I wanted to make one piece without a pendant. But a piece without a strong focal can be bland. Thankfully, I found this statement clasp that can also be worn as a side focal. This is the Black Beauty necklace with black and Red orange and orange looped beads. For sale with complimentary earrings.

I got a pair of beautiful embossed components in a swap of which I lost one piece. For years, this component has existed in my UFO bag without me knowing what to do with it. Maybe, I hoped to find its pair one day and make myself a pair of earrings. Eventually, I gave up the hunt and made a necklace to go with this gorgeous pendant.  I created a Handmade copper clasp.to go with the piece. The necklace with an Embossed Verdigris patina is much longer now (than in the picture) and on its way to its buyer.

happy pink looped bead necklace

Happy Pink

In these chaotic and turbulent times, we are looking for happiness. Happy colours, florals, light materials and forms enliven us and make us smile. In pink and gold using recycled glass beads and refurbished pendant I find this to be a very happy necklace. The pendant is a marbled and altered version of an earlier resin pendant just like dark marble and needs to be handled with care. Necklace is for sale with complimentary earrings.

I love using blues and greens in my work and sea themed pieces. Also, I wanted to once again use an alternative to typical pendants. Both thoughts came together in this looped bead necklace of blue and green glass beads. Can you guess what the pendant is? It is one part of a toggle clasp (of which I had lost the bar) and a long lampwork bead wired together. Since the clasp was sea themed it has reef like forms in it which fit my idea of this necklace well. A dab of patina inks was all that was needed. Necklace is for sale with complimentary earrings.

Once again, Chennai is under lockdown due to a frightening increase of infected people. Therefore, there will be no shipping until 30th June to begin with. However, orders will be booked and prepped for shipping. The Government is doing their best and we need to help them by staying safe. Until then, buy local, reuse, upcycle, recycle and stay safe.

I hope you found it interesting
Cheers

These are lovely, especially the happy pink necklace. I think you are right that strikes a tone that is an antidote to these times. It’s a great pendant. Stay safe!

Thanks Ann. Sometimes refurbished or altered pendants end up looking much better than their earlier avatar. Its true in the case of this pendant as well.

I’m so sorry you’re still under lockdown and COVID cases are going up! Lockdown was eased here a month ago and the numbers have doubled (people just don’t listen!). On the other hand, this situation proved a positive experience for creativity and using up our stash and you’ve done an excellent job here! The necklaces are an excellent example – each has a design of its own and the bead and color combos have a pleasing flow.

Yes, it was cathartic to make jewellery. I wish I could order more supplies now but I cannot, not even from local stores. They eased the lockdown for 11 days and opened up travel and infection rate soared particularly in cities which are major transport hubs. So the Govt. had to enforce restrictive lockdown again. There are volunteers who come door to door, check our temperature and advice us to stay indoor. There are 10s of cases in each street perpendicular to mine. What more can anyone do if people refuse to listen?
