What are the types of Zodiac Jewellery

Some read horoscopes daily and others might consider it before important events or occasions. Some might not believe in astrological predictions at all. Whether you immerse yourself in the world of astrology or not, you would know your zodiac sign. You might even glance over an astrological column while you’re flicking through a magazine. I am a Gemini through and through. For me, sun sign based predictions turn out to be truer than moon sign (Rasi) based predictions that we follow in India. Also, as a trend researcher, I am interested in the future and how it is shaped by the past and the present. That is why, Zodiac jewellery caught my fancy.

Zodiac jewellery

Our zodiac sign is part of our identity and celebrates our differences. This is why in recent years, more and more zodiac themed parties, and gifts have become popular. In the last decade, I have seen a steady presence of birthstone rings, name pendants, monogrammed jewellery, customised photo pendants as birthday gifts.

What is Zodiac jewellery

Zodiac jewellery is a ornamental representation of the zodiac. It is for those who wear their jewellery as a meaningful emblem and evokes personal memories, celebrates friendships and expresses identity.

It’s a newer yet timeless update on talismanic jewellery. Zodiac jewellery first became popular during the 1930’s, then in the 1970’s and has once again peaked in popularity recently. In uncertain times, people have always looked to their zodiac as a sign of hope or as an explanation for when things seem difficult. Wearing a tactile zodiac emblem as an amulet can bring comfort when things get tough. It can also be worn to empower and inspire the wearer.

What are the types of Zodiac Jewellery

There are many different ways to display your zodiac sign on jewellery, here is a quick roundup of all types of zodiac sign on your jewellery so you can find the perfect piece to suit you.

Zodiac Name Jewellery

Many people choose to wear a necklace with the name of their star sign e.g. Aries or Taurus written in their favourite font. This is a modern update of the 2000’s name necklace trend. It showcases your sun sign as a part of your identity. It suits people who can truly relate to their zodiac sign and assume all the personality traits.

Astrological Symbol Jewellery

Astrological symbols look great worn on a necklace as each constellation has it’s own astrological symbol. Leo to me looks like an ear hook and Taurus has a simplified bull shape. This is not unique to star signs as astronomers also create these symbols for moon phases, planets and the sun. These symbols are perfect to wear as a subtle nod to your star sign. Symbol pendants, finger rings and brooches, are graphic, look modern and yet posses deep symbolism.

Animal Zodiac Jewellery

Not to be confused with your spirit animal, each zodiac sign also related to a specific animal that shares your personality traits. This category is for you if you identify with the characteristic of the animal that your constellation or birth year represents.  A Leo -Lion represents bravery and strength and charismatic whereas a Cancer is represented by a crab to symbolise their sensitive and protective side. Charms that look like Chinese zodiac animals – rabbit, dragon, tiger, or horse fall under this category as well.

Constellation Jewellery

Each star sign comes from a cluster of stars in the sky known as a constellation. Using these star patterns on a pendant is a subtle and layered way to show off your sun sign. Constellation zodiac necklaces have become the most popular birthday gifts and birth gifts for new moms in the recent years. Many people wear their partner’s star signs alongside their own in the belief that their stars brought them together, this is a thoughtful way to keep your love one close to you at all times. Isn’t that romantic? A constellation necklace is for life and hence it makes sense to wear one in gold or silver. It will be a cherished heirloom piece that you can pass on to your loved ones.

I recently came across this great brand Muru Jewellery that offers a range of gifting solutions not just for your loved ones but also for yourself. They have jewellery based on positivity, strength, empowerment, strength and sun signs as well which I found to be unique. Since I have my birthday coming up (didn’t I say I was a Gemini?) I have a gift for you from Muru. A 10% off code for my readers! Use SAYURI10 on their sterling silver, 18ct gold vermeil and 18ct rose gold vermeil jewellery that is full of meaning.  The coupon is valid for use, multiple times for three months till August 29th 2020. I hope that you make good use of it, if only to buy me a gift. After all, my birthday is within a novena.

Until then, share with me your thoughts on astrology, predictions, sun sings and zodiac jewellery. I’d love to hear what you think!

I hope you find it interesting
Cheers

It is quite a coincidence. One of India’s most famous astrologers Bejan Daruwala passed away and this post on zodiac-themed jewellery popped up. Advance wishes for a super-duper birthday and year ahead 🙂

    Regards,
    Mahesh

I’m not a fanatic believer in astrology but I find that some characteristics are true. Many years ago a co-student went to India and brought us books with predictions for the next year for our zodiac signs and some jewelry. We had real fun reading and commenting on those for a whole year 🙂 I still keep the moonstone heart pendant she gave me – I’m Cancer 🙂 I didn’t really know there were so many variations of zodiac jewelry!

Yes, these are a few categories not including navaratna jewellery. That is an entire category of jewellery with gemstones that depict the nine planets and are worn for astrological reasons. That is what is very popular in India. But zodiac jewellery and gifts are very popular in USA now. One of my students, who interned in NYC did a project on it last semester.
