Paper stone earrings

Recently my students and I put up a fashion show at college. We dyed our own fabrics and made them into apparel in silhouettes that we wanted. The rest were sourced as ready made white garments and dyed. We also hand painted a few of the garments. I say this with pride as these under graduate students have no prior knowledge of dyeing, apparel design or sewing. I will write more about this show on a following post. For now, you can head over to my IG page – JewelsofSayuri to see the pictures. The Paper stone earrings that I show here are few of the pieces of jewellery that I made for the show.

We’re All Ears :: Reveal :: Land Art

Ms. Erin, in her February’s we’re all ears challenge introduced me to the world of stone art and land art. These are installations, pieces of natural art done by Jon Foreman of Sculpt the world. While browsing his page, I came across his collection of stone art, where he arranges stones adjacently to create art. I was reminded of the ceramic rounds and paper stones in my stash. Fast forward to the night before the show, when I had to make earrings urgently, I made 4 pairs based on Foreman’s patterns.

I used simple stacking or looping to create all the four pairs of earrings. All of them are long, lightweight and attention seeking as they were meant to be seen on ramp. I wasn’t going for quality here, rather quantity as I had to put together looks for 8 people in a few hours time. All the ear hooks are also made by me. The first one is a stack of paper machie bead, rolled paper bead and a metallised plastic spacer.

The second pair once again is a combination of paper machie bead and rolled paper beads in circular and square shape. These beads were made during a workshop with paper craft artisans in 2019. As the beads were readily available, I could put them together swiftly. A lick of colour was what was needed.

The third pair is heavier, made with ceramic rounds in turquoise along with paper beads. As this was meant for the show stopper, I wired the paper disc to introduce a little sway into the piece.

I hope you liked my Paper stone earrings. Unfortunately, the 4th pair broke before I could take a picture. I was planning to make more earrings – out of wire after the show (as it seemed to suit the theme) but things didn’t go as planned. Maybe I need more inspiration at this point. So do hop along with me to the Earrings Everyday blog to see what all the participants have made.

I hope you found it interesting
Cheers

I had prepped those paper those with bling a while back for a tutorial but never used them. I got to use them here

Just beautiful! Your paper mache beads give me the itch! I used to make many clay and paper mache beads in high school / uni and color them in the most unusual of color mixes! These brought sweet memories!
