Beadsoup earrings and the end of decade sale

banjaran earrings

“I have No beadsoup left” said no beader ever. None of us like being left with odd beads after a project, though we might (secretly) hate to part with them. However, in reality we end up with odd beads and components and hoard them hoping that we’ll use them someday. The leftovers build up (albeit slowly) over time and in my case have become my entire stash. I only have beadsoup at this point – No beads! with my business being the slowest it has ever been, I have almost stopped creating. My stash looks like I have a lot of beads(soup) but they do not inspire me as well. But when I saw the reveal post for We’re all years annual leftovers challenge pop up on my reader, I had a revelation. I could use this opportunity to purge while making some beadsoup earrings.

I spent this morning going through a portion of my stash segregating viable glass beads. Using a box with dividers,I stored glass beads colour wise. It made me realised that I have a lot more new beads than I thought I had. I do not have to buy any beads for an upcoming workshop. Since it has been a slow season, I was planning a discount sale as well – more details at the end of the post. In the spirit of the holidays, I thought “Why not make simple earrings and give it away with the Banjaran Dreams necklaces as freebies.” Getting Beadsoup earrings done for this reveal was an added bonus.

How many Beadsoup earrings can you make at a stretch?

I made 11 pairs of earrings at a stretch in less than an hour time. Yes, that was all it took to make simple earrings – from selecting beads and making a few hooks to looping them together. It took another two hours to photograph, edit and write this post – simply because I was prepping for the sale alongside. You can see eight of them here in this post.

Lets “Blue” some earrings

In the past 3-4 years IΒ  have slowly become a blue person. After teasing my Dad all his life for preferring blue, I find it strange that I like blue as well now. But I favour dark blue while he love its tints. Now that Classic blue is hte colour of the year 2020, I might roll with it for a while. Coming back to the Banjaran dreams collection – most pieces are a mix of green and blue. So I ended up making blue earrings. Here are a bunch.

I understand that these earrings are not unique in terms of design. But it felt good to make some simple jewellery after sorting and purging my stash. See below two other interesting earrings – Opal Rhinestone Earrings and Lapis Lazuli earrings that I made recently. I have tutorials on how to make them as well, for the interested.

End of Decade Sale

Did you notice that we have lived through yet another decade? 2010s has been a momentous decade for me on many fronts. More on that on an upcoming Decade in review post. To say goodbye to this decade and to usher in the next, I plan to have a grand End of Decade sale from 23rd to 30th Dec 2019. Please look for posts on my Instagram handle and JOS Facebook page to buy.

End of decade sale

I hope you found it interesting

Thank you for mentioning the tongue cleaners. They are perfect vessels for beads. I love copper and blue together too. Your lapis earrings are my favorite. I am sad that your sales are down. Mine are as well. I think it is a sign of the times.

β€œI have No beadsoup left” HAHAHA! I laughed out loud at that. I never need to buy another bead again, but that won’t stop me! Wow! You really made a wonderful array of earrings, all in one hour! I tend to make things too fussy and complicated so that is why I like to do this challenge. It really gets me sparking creatively! I think those blues are right on trend for the new year. I adore that first pair with the green. That metal design is one that I always gravitate to and the green is a really pretty soft color. Bravo! Thanks for always playing along with me! Enjoy the day! Erin

This challenge was the reminder that I really needed to clean my stash. I am so glad that I cleaned out 2 boxes of odd orphaned beads. Instead of having 5+ unsorted boxes of beads, I now have 2 – one sorted and one unsorted.

Dyou know, if you throw a bead away, that’s precisely the one you’ll need at the very next moment?? I’m convinced of that.
Enjoy creating – that’s what being an artist is all about, everything else will take care of itself and fall into place.
    Happy New Year!

haaa…very true. Its been very hard to get rid of beads. But I tell myself that I need the space for new ones.

I think that’s what I love about this challenge, using up some of that bead soup and how fast things come together. You did wonderful with this, knocking out so many!! Blue is my favorite – in all its tints!

Setting the timer is much more of a challenge to me than working with leftovers πŸ™‚ How wise to choose your current collection as an inspiration! I love the first up left with the green beads and the first with the blue beads – the connectors on both are so fancy!

I actually didnt set a timer – but that is all the time that I had left πŸ˜€ I like the connectors too but I wanted to make stuff to give away for free in an already discounted sale so I didnt feel like spending more on it. the next time I do this challenge, I would like to do it just for creativity sake.

Well, sometimes returning to the basics and simple designs can be quite refreshing and immensely inspirational!

Yes this was one of the times when I had to think “quick and easy” designs.
