Now that we are into peak winter, concerts, celebrations, parties and thereby dressing up is on everybody’s mind. I, for one, want to put on a shimmery dress and go out partying. But as that is not going to happen any time soon, I am floating away to dreamland where beautiful women put on stylish clothes and handmade jewelry and party with handsome, caring, funny, and rich (duh!) men and women hanging on to every word of theirs. Winter 16-17 Jewelry Styles are diverse this year and range from statement pendants to long one ear earrings with themes ranging from royalty and wearable technology to tribal roots and the urban luxe. Invaluable, a website with lots of vintage jewelry has a post on Winter 16-17 jewelry styles, which you should check out too.
Winter 16-17 Jewelry Styles
Tribal Trails
2016 (in terms of Fashion trends) has been all about going back to your roots and learning about your own culture. Ethnicity, tribal culture, and age-old philosophies have influenced F/W trends like no other infusing pops of bright colors into the dull dark winter wardrobe. Combined with other fascinating trends like long and linear and Tassels, Tribal jewelry like long pendant necklaces, boho tassel earrings and ethnic fabric pieces are in trend
Urban Modernity
Clean cut pieces using base or precious metals that are bold, simplistic and much suited for the day look. They could be based on Urban influences – architecture, engineering, electronics, and a fast paced life.
Princess bling
I cannot imagine a party with some good old-fashioned bling. Oversized cocktail rings, glittering stone chandeliers, and expertly layered stone necklaces can make you sparkle this winter. Just do not wear them all at the same time. If bling is not your thing, then, you can create a similar look with pearls. Add in a pearl tassel for some more fun.
Unique Artisan Jewelry
Handmade jewelry with beads, stones, and metal that has a natural rustic touch to it. It could be inspired by natural elements, natural forms, colors, materials or textures. However, the realization of the inspiration is truly unique based on the particular artist’s point of view. I have picked this mythical parrot necklace of mine as an example for its rich colors, its organic form, and extremely crumpled texture.
Technology infused jewelry
This has been an interesting year for India, with the demonetization and the PM encouraging out countrymen to go digital with cashless transactions. However, in the past 2 weeks in Chennai due to the cyclone, people are unable to buy anything as most POS machines do not function, there is no money in ATMs and no power or internet connection to make online payments. Perhaps this would be the right time to introduce Kerv, a wireless, waterproof, scratchproof ring that can be used to make payments. It is popular in UK but should work anywhere in the world that accepts MasterCard contactless payments. It is yet to come to India, though.
Excepting the last Kerv ring, I wanted to pick certain themes and designs for the Winter 16-17 Jewelry Styles showcase, keeping in mind the Indian Audience. This I agree, is a departure from my usual process. But with the Marghazhi season* in full swing in Chennai and the men and women dressing up in their eclectic best to attend the various concerts was too big an inspiration to pass up on.
* Chennai Marghazhi season – A time period of around 2 months in Chennai filled with musical and dance concerts (traditional, western and fusion), theater plays, magic shows, Literature fests, installations, spiritual discussions and yummy food.
I hope you found it interesting
Cheers
