When you create jewelry with silk—whether it is in the form of fibre, yarn or fabric—it elevates the status of the product making it unique, exclusive and worthy of the person using the product. That’s why silk crafts are crowd pleasers. In this post I am going to share with you two DIY silk Thread jewelry tutorials. Before that a little background on Silk thread.
“Silk” as a material is associated with prosperity, newness and purity in India . It is the material of choice during festivals and celebrations. Silk thread however, is the commercial name for Viscose – polyester embroidery thread as I discussed before in my silk thread jewelry post earlier. In the last year, the popularity of Silk thread jewelry have gone up steadily in India and I have made quite a few pieces myself. Here are 2 such designs along with DIY tutorials (originally written for and published in the favecrafts blog) for you. For Silk cord based OOAK jewelry, Take a look at my Romani range
DIY silk thread earrings
Inspired by the Argentinian Tango–a sensual ballroom dance in which synchronized movements are used to convey romance and intimacy–these tango earrings scream oomph and flair. The Tango is all about connection; there is an element of togetherness even in separation. In these earrings, you can note that though they are two different discs, they connected by wire providing a sense of continuity and fluidity. Saree ribbon and silk thread jewelry is all the rage now, making these silk thread earrings a must-have for your wardrobe.
This Silk Cord Necklace is interchangeable and can be customized to particular outfits by adding or subtracting rings from the cord. Being a bold, tribal style statement necklace, it goes very well with simple solid colored shirts, tunics or dresses. The client whom I made this for, matched it with a variety of soft sarees. It makes a great gift, as the receiver can mix and match it as they like. My Instagram Followers would surely recognise these. Not yet found me on Instagram? Look for @jewelsofsayuri

I've never used silk but I love the idea of wrapping hoops with it. The necklaces are so colourful and very tactile!
The ring necklaces…wow wow wow! I love them so much.
Oh my Gosh! They are gorgeous Divya! Especially the red necklace! The rings are simply luscious!
Thanks, I had great fun making them
Its a technique that can add color to metal and soften the look at the same time
🙂 thanks Michelle, I am working on variations now, will post them in due time

Goodness me, these are beautiful – I am a colour junkie and they fit my bill – fabulous
I just love your silk thread earrings and the necklace is so beautiful ! I love the bright colors in the rings and the idea that the colors can be interchanged . How well thought out your pieces are!

The necklace was my client idea, so full credit goes to her
Thanks, will do
Bright, beautiful and one of a kind! I've tried making rings from fabric but they did not look half as gorgeous as these. Silk thread is the answer!
Thanks, you can also use silk fabric or spun silk (polyester that looks like silk) to get a vibrant look
so nice! looking bright! Divya mam I've doubt how to stick silk thread ring in stud. I tried fevical white and hot glue but not fix at the stud
Priyamvadha, you can use fevi bod to glue any fibre to metal. I suggest that you use a half bead or kundan stone/patch in front to get a better hold on the stud. or you can use a ear hook and wrap it with thread or wire. Hope this is helpful
