Some of my friends who know that I blog, ask me if I earn big bucks from it as they see people earning 3K-5K dollars a month. The answer sadly is No. Jewelry blogging doesnt pay much and for a non US blogger the opportunities are extremely limited. But I do make enough to pay for my domain and internet and sometimes have cash left over for Beads. So its not all that bad, but still many jewelry bloggers are unaware of the fact that they too can make money of their blogs much like their lifestyle blogging counterparts if they try. So here is my attempt to guide you in your attempt to Earn from your jewelry blog. I am sure that you will not say no to some extra bead money 😀
Earn from your jewelry blog
First Things First
- Before you begin to monetize your blog, you must first organise it. You’ll need to leave good space for the ads (if you want to run them) without overcrowding your blog. So layout and blog design are extremely important. Watch out for the how to column next week to learn how to better organise your blog
- Get a Paypal account – Doesnt matter which part of the world you are in – Most local business too would want to pay through paypal to keep track of their payments
- Have a Disclosure page – Very important if you live in the US and covered by FTC rules. Look at my page here to get an understanding
- Grow you readership – numbers do matter when you talk about money. Take a look at your pageviews stats and see how you can improve them. Become more active on Facebook (have a brand or blog page) and Instagram to get more followers. You can also get paid to tweet and post on Facebook if you are interested in it.
- The best way to bring people to your blog is to create great content not just for your blog but also for your social media accounts.
- Learn to take risks, try different opportunities and see what works out for you. Most people swear by Google Adsense, but it doesnt work for me and I dont use it. I use a combination of ads, textual links, affiliate links and do exchanges.
So that is all you have to do to start the monetising process on your blog. To help you break the ice, here are some opportunities and programs that you could try to get your feet wet. These are specifically tailored to Jewelry/craft and hobby blogs to help you earn better. The List contains Affiliate links.
- Join Share-a-sale : Its one of the biggest affiliate marketing networks in the world and it really works. After you join in, choose the merchants that will fit your blog and audience, and join in on their programs. Once approved you can use banner ads or affiliate links in your posts to recommended products or services. Its incredibly easy for beginners and there are so many Jewelry vendors and suppliers on it. You can recommend products such as electronics, magazines, shoes and bags to your readers and earn from it.
- Become a Bluprint Affiliate – I love craftsy, I have learnt a lot on it and really recommend it to everyone. I used to do that for free, until I became their affiliate. So I stayed on even after they became Bluprint. Do try it out and you will enjoy it too.
- Blog partnerships and exchanges: Many jewelry component manufacturers and suppliers often look for jewelry artists and blogger who can review their products or write tutorials for them. Though they dont offer cash, they often give gift certificates to buy beads from their (online) store usually with free or discount shipping. Once you make publish the reviews or tutorials the products are yours to keep or sell. I usually get good price for them as I chose high quality materials and new designs (to begin with) that we dont get in India. Sites like Lotsofbuttons, Beadmixer, Endless Leather, Auntie’s beads are some I have worked with in the past.
- Direct advertisements and paid posts: Here the companies pay you for posting an Ad of theirs or mentioning them in a post (as a sponsor or casually). Usually the pay is very less ($10-$25 per month) but its upfront cash.
- Have a jewelry sale – Put up all products you have for sale in a table format with details and have a send invoice button or inquiry form for clients to mention what they are interested in. Follow it through with a NEFT or Paypal invoice to get paid and ship when you receive payment.
So these are some of the easiest ways to earn from your jewelry blog. The other options are using Adsense, blogher (both have very strict approval process), being an Amazon affiliate, etc. Regardless of the method, I promote sites’/brands that I would have anyway done for free and I think that’s a good rule of thumb to follow, when it comes to picking brands to work with.
So tell me, do you monetize your blog and have you tried any of these methods? What works the best for you? I would love to know. I hope I have created some interest in others to contemplate the monetizing process and I hope that this article will be of some help to you to take the plunge.
I hope you find it interesting
Cheers
