Pixie Dust Bohemian Jewelry

Pixie Dust necklace
In continuation with my Last post on my New Pixie dust collection, here is the actual reveal of the seven necklaces – Pixie Dust Bohemian Jewelry.  With quirky bohemian flair that is reminiscent of childhood dreams and fairy tales, I present 7 OOAK beautiful necklaces for 7 fabulous women who are strong, independent yet childlike – Women who believe in the magic in  themselves.
These mixed media pieces were created using fuzzy yarn  that was crochet (not braided) into necklaces with pendants bezels of different shapes which were filled with my own special Pixie dust – i.e. glitter, sequins, seed beads, resin, plus lots of love. The dust has been added in layers giving a snow globe effect and they actually shimmer and some are textural to touch. The photos do not do any justice to them 🙂

 Bronze

Shimmering bronze, gold glitter resin pendant with red orange fuzzy crochet necklace. It has a handmade form folded Brass focal with green patina and a wire wrapped bead. Contains gold, bronze and champagne dust that represents Destiny, wishes and positive thoughts. this is the most “glittering” of all pendants as the glitter particles are chunkier and have an AB finish to them. Did you notice that this is the second red orange piece in this collection? There are two more with orange combos; This is what I meant about getting used to orange in my bead soup post 😀

 Forest

This started as my spring Bling necklace for the CHA best blogger crafts book and went on to inspire the entire collection. It has a Double shade green glitter resin pendant in antique bronze bezel on mustard, orange & gray crochet cord. Acrylic and crystals beads as embellishments. Different colors of pixie dust have different meanings – Forest is for good Luck

 Night

Pendant – black & green glitter resin pendant in silver bezel that reminds you of a night sky filled with fireflies. Necklace – Handmade blue, purple crochet cord with metalised beads that are crocheted into the necklace. A hand knotted cord and looped disco beads make the necklace asymmetric. Isn’t it very Gypsy? I could imagine a gypsy in a long flowing tiered skirt, a pheasant blouse and a headscarf wearing this as she goes to the market to sells her  creations.

Ruby Rose

Gorgeous antique bronze heart bezel filled with multi color vintage sequins that are atleast a few years older than me. My mom used to do sequin paintings (very famous in India in the 70’s) and these sequins are from her stash; I think that it adds a bit of nostalgia to the brightly colored components. Ruby – rose, a combination dust brings in positive energy through Love. Necklace – handmade red, magenta & purple crochet cord with Pink, green and gold bead chain
It is a piece that will add that perfect Indian touch to western outfits or start a quirky romance with your silk sarees.

Spring

What if an ikat saree could be made with a contrast Kanchiveeram border using the Korvai technique? That thought led me to create this bold, eclectic necklace that combines some of my favourite colors and patterns.

Pendant – Eclectic gold, green, copper glitter and bugle bead embedded resin pendant  Necklace – soft copper color cord wrapped with yellow and green silk thread in an Ikat pattern. wire wrapped Pink stone focal for contrast

PLUM – Pendant – raspberry, wine and purple glitter resin textured pendant in antique bronze bezel
Necklace – Mustard Yellow & gray crochet cord with self crocheted pearl beads. Looped faux pearls and beads form the extenders

How many times would you redo a piece? I redo it until I like it!!
The reason I am talking about this dreaded word is that I tried to make this piece around 7 times before it took it final shape and thereby delayed launching this collection. The pearls that you see are crocheted into the cord as the cord was being made and not after but by using a separate yarn which is hidden otherwise. Also in all the 7 designs of Pixie dust, the pendants were first thread into tens of metres of yarn of different colors thereby making counting of the croches impossible; still the pendants rest at the center. It took a lot of effort but I finally figured it out!!

My favourite pieces from the Pixie Dust Bohemian Jewelry collection is Plum ofcourse.  However, I do love bronze as well for the metal work. So how did you find the collection and which ones do you like? I wire work collection based on what Regina, the other witches and fairies wear in Once upon a time is on mind, dont know when I’ll have the time and resources to do something like them.

Till Then, take care and enjoy this card that Radhika of Hobby Crafts has created based on the Tinker bell and Pirate fairy for a Lulupu Movie inspiration challenge. I just cant believe that she has dedicated that card to me :D. Can you see little bottles on Pixie dust  on the window display based card?? There are so many little elements in it that you have to visit her blog to see them all.

I hope you find it interesting
Cheers

Hi, Divya – what beauties! I especially love the way you transition the crocheted sections into a beaded finish toward the clasp. Very rich, it really adds to the sophistication of the fiber materials. I also love the different mixtures of pixie dust, so fun and unique!

Thanks Mich, It took a long time for me to figure out how to finish them with beads like that. I had a lot of fun playing with sequins and glitter to make those bezels
