Keeping in mind that St.Patrick’s day was just around the corner I have selected a predominantly green based free color palette for this month – succulent spring. Its that time of the year in India when leaves are greeny-green before they turn dusty and dry in April and I love them when they are that shade of green for it represent life, freshness and prosperity.
The plant show in the picture is called Karpooravalli in Tamil (as it has the flavour of camphor), or Plectranthus amboinicus which is commonly known as Indian borage or country borage is a large succulent herb with soft hairy leaves that have a distinctive taste. It is a medicinal herb that keeps cough and cold in check while promoting digestion and elimination of toxins from the body. It poses as a muscle relaxant and helps fight infections. The leaves are best eaten fresh (after a through cold wash) or can be added to soups. Both Children and adults can safely eat them but stick to a couple of leaves at a time as they can be really pungent.
I used to love eating these leaves as a kid and I am so happy to have it back in my terrace garden after all these years.
Coming to the palette succulent spring, It is a very straight forward one that brings about a sense of harmony easily. The colors blend in with one another while leaving enough room for contrasts, accents or details. The picture itself can be used as a great inspiration for texture details like I have done in this Nappa Leather necklace where I have concentrated on the form and texture more than just the color. You could replace the blue cords with brown ones for an exact interpretation of the palette.
