Indians have always prided on sporting real Flowers. Paintings of famous artists like Raja Ravi Verma show mythological women in the likes of Shakuntala, Menaka and other apsaras wearing real flower jewelry. Such jewelry not only looked divine but smelt great, didnt irritate the skin, were economic and were biodegradable. Werent these women really clever and fashionable??
Women from the previous generation ( my mom’s) used to wear fresh flowers in their hair everyday. Even I remember wearing roses from my garden everyday for two months in a year they would bloom and other flowers during festivals or special occasions. Sadly that habit that declined with people working in corporate offices and Flowers are now reserved for weddings and as offering to God. But there is an interesting trend on the rise.
Inspired by their Bangladeshi and Pakistani counterparts young Indian women are showing interest in extremely fashionable real flower jewelry especially during wedding for their haldi and mehendi functions. Flower jewelry particularly rings and hairclips are also passed out as wedding favours.
Real flower Bridal Jewelry
Recently I created a 6 piece jewelry set using real roses and pearls for a bridal function (haldi) which turned out really well and most importantly the bride loved it. So here they are

Rose and pearl Bridal jewelry set – Includes – necklace, earrings, maang tikka, 2 bracelets, ring, waistbelt or anklet (price depends on flowers used). I can also make Haath phool, vangi (armlet) and haar (long necklace).
As it was a custom order, the bride was very specific about me recreating the design a Bangladeshi bride wore with silk flowers. But as I hate to copy I ended up changing quite a few components, used real flowers while retaining the flavour.

Though I have created jewelry using real flowers in the past, this was the first time I created a entire set. It was quite a challenge as these pink roses weren’t in season, so it was very difficult to source them and they were quick to dry with local glues not working. I must thank my client for having confidence in me even when I was skeptical. It was her belief that made my experiment successful.
