Recently When I wanted to attend a meeting I realised that I didnt have a decent business card holder. So on my birthday, my mom presented me with a metal and leather business card card which she thought was decent, elegant and classy. No doubt that it was classy, but it was a little too bland for my taste. She was a little disappointed when I told her that I would have preferred something more artsy, reflecting my career as a designer and said that she would take it back. I felt really bad and told her that I’ll upcycle it, so here what I did
Materials I used :
– A business card holder in metal and leather
– Metallic paints – bronze and copper color
– A color print out
– mod podge
– Diamond glaze (optional)
– Brush and scissors
Method:
1) I first determined what image I wanted to use on the case and I printed and cut that out. If you notice, its the image on the bib necklace with is the cover (header) image of this blog.
2) using that as a template I marked on the case
3) I painted on the front portion of the case (on the leather) using metallic paints , leaving out the marked portion and then glued the image to the case using modpodge
4) Once dry (after 5 minutes) I coated the painted and image portions of the case with modpodge
5) If you want addtional shine, you can give a thin coat of diamond glaze on top.
TaDa!! Its done in about 10 minutes time. Here’s the Before and after…Funky Right!! Totally doable when you are panicking to find a kitschy-artsy business card holder at midnight just before a bead fair or a blogger meet. 😉
Need more bling?? Add a couple of rhinestones to the corners. You can print out your blog/ brand name and use it instead of a colorful image. PS: That was my original thought, but I like it better this way
I hope you find it interesting
Cheers
