My strong point in Jewelry (with regard to aesthetics) has always been Ethnic. Maybe its in my blood, maybe ethnic pieces are what sells the most for me..Either way I love making ethnic jewelry whether its inspired by Indian culture or any other culture/ ethnicity that has got a very strong flavour.
This time around I wanted to create a few pieces that have a strong tribal feeling…Something that has a basic or cliche’ element that we associate with tribal jewelry at the same time being quaint and quirky.
I realised that was an odd combination once I started making some pieces. Each one of them stood apart and could not be combined or put into a single collection however hard I tried.
Finally I let them be, for if you try too hard it not only shows but also doesnt look great…So here are a few pieces from the Tribal inspired collection that does not look like a collection
To begin with the Safety pin necklace with Handmade paper beads – with the emphasis on paper as the paper was handmade by me from leftover paper and pulp. I love the fact that the safety pins are there but not there on your face.
The next is inspired by all those hairpin necklaces you see on pinterest. I spray painted mine and scratched it up to look like claw marks before the paint dried. Next is an oxidised metal bracelet with a little enamelling. I have always seen gypsies making and selling this type of bracelet so it sort of clicked when I wanted a tribal/Gyspy/ Boho theme
Then whats a tribal neckpiece that doesnt have beads..I picked up these normal beads when I went to Delhi and thought that they would make the perfect multi strand Tribal Statement necklace. The other one is the Mina bead necklace for which I had posted a tutorial on the Craftziners magazine a while back

I hope you found the pieces interesting.
Cheers
