2015 is here and hopefully its off to a good start for all of you. Keeping up with the Sayuri Tradition of Welcoming the New Year with a tutorial, Here is a tutorial for a simple yet sweet pair of earrings that you can make in 30 mins (which includes 25 minutes of drying time) to shake away all your post holiday stress. I call it Roze en Paars or Pink and purple earrings as those are the colors that I have used to match with some tops that I bought, but you could make them in any color combination to suit your mood.
DIY Roze en Paars earrings – DIY Pink and purple earrings
Materials
2 one inch tube beads/spacers
Fancy yarn in hot pink (or color of your choice)
Fabric glue or rubber adhesive
2 big holed faceted rondrells
2 silver crystals
2 seed beads/small beads (silver/copper)
2 eyepins, a pair of ear hooks
copper 3D liner
Round nose pliers/step pliers
Scissors
Method
1. Apply glue on your tube spacer and wrap the yarn on it until fully covered. Let it dry
2. Add a small bead to an eyepin (I used a wooden copper bead to go with the copper liner that I have used; you can use any bead/any material as it will be hidden)
3. Add a drop of glue on the bead and slide on it a big hole rondrell and pull the eyepin up. The small bead and the loop of the eyepin should be hidden inside the big bead
4. Add the tube spacer, it should fit the big bead so that it looks sort of continuous, followed by a silver crystal. Make a loop and add a ear hook.
5. Repeat 1-4 for the second earring
6. Using your 3D liner add dots to the yarn wrapped bead. Wait for 20 mins until the paint is fully dry. Wear and Enjoy your Pink and purple earrings!!
Try creating variations with different types of cord or yarn – Hemp or twine or wool will give you a rustic feeling while satin cords such as the one I have used, look funky. You could use Whooly Wire too. I realise that not everyone is comfortable with mix media jewelry or even mixing metals so I hope that this project will help you to come out of that zone and familiarize you to use yarn by incorporating it in small doses.
PS: Pink and Purple combination is high on trend for SS15; so dont miss out on it
I hope you find it interesting
Cheers
