2014 was a year of many milestones and Sparkling Glory. It was delightful, tough, frustrating, filled with opportunities and tested me at every turn. I hope I have done justice to the time given and opportunities afforded to me this year and I wish for 2015 to be the year where I be healthier, wealthier and wiser 🙂
My Biggest realisation of this year – That I have been spending (wasting) too much of my precious time with people, to whom I mattered very less when I should have spent it with people who cherish me. I have been trying to remedy this mistake as much as possible this year.
Biggest (Recurring) Learning –If you have a positive goal (however big or normal) that you sincerely want to achieve, somehow the universe will make it happen. Case in point is the following incident that happened.
A couple of weeks back, I was feeling a little sad for myself as there had been no features of my work in recent times and then the phone rang. A friend of a student, wanted to get my views of Diamond jewellery trends in India for a Newspaper article. I was a little surprised for I am not a diamond expert but she reassured me that they only wanted a Designer/Trend Researcher‘s point of view. So I gathered up some points and did some extra research, spoke to the reporter expecting a one line mention somewhere.
However, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the paper as I was qouted not once but twice in the same paper in two different articles that too as a City based Jewellery designer, right next to Jewellery giants like Nathella and Vummidi. Here are the clippings and the quotes. I only wish that reporters would ask us for written quotes when using our names next to them.

“Popular culture also has had an impact on designs as can be seen in the surge in demand for antique designs and chunky jewellery after the success of period films like Jodha Akbar. There definitely was an increased interest in bigger diamonds and vintage designs after the success of Jodha Akbar and even now, vintage heirloom collection is popular in the bridal circuit. While the demand for lightweight jewellery has increased, there has also been a demand rising for chunky jewellery. Along with gold, people are buying a lot of diamonds with coloured stones. Diamonds have that touch of extravagance,” says Divya N, a city-based fashion and jewellery designer, who sees the older designs coming in with smaller modifications, with a pearl dangle or inter-changeable drop
I thank those students who helped fulfill this wish of mine to be quoted as an expert on Jewellery in a prestigious Newspaper thereby ending 2014 on a high. It urges me to study, learn and experiment more and become a better designer in next year. As this is my last post for the year, I will meet you all in 2015.
Until then if you would like to Reflect on the year that went by, I suggest 50 Questions to Help You Reflect, Appreciate and Get Excited for 2015 . Play it like a game before the end of the year with your family and you’ll find it very fulfilling.
