Childhood memories and Auto rides

If you were to ask me what my most memorable childhood memory is – it would have to be the long auto rides I used to take to reach school during my primary school days. I lived in a place where autorickshaws were the most convenient way of getting to school for those who couldn’t or weren’t old enough to cycle. The Morning rides were boring but evenings were super fun. In the evenings, after school, I would wait till the second trip of the auto and go for a ride with  about 20+ kids crammed in, dropping everyone at their homes and get off last almost an hour later. Most people would dread that considering the fact that my house was only 15 minutes away from the school but it was a lot of fun for me. A group of us would sing made up songs, play anthakshari, poke fun at the driver, swap stories and at times I would teach a Marathi girl (later my best friend) to speak in Tamil.

Thinking back, I am now really surprised that my parents didnt object to me being out for so long as a with people I hardly knew, considering that my parents were/are very protective of me. Remember, this is way back in the early 90’s when phones were just a novelty. I am thankful that they let me do that for it was my one chance at (good) social interaction and having fun as I was a sick child with hardly any friends.
With technology’s help, now people are in touch with each other all the time but it unthinkable with our cities and towns becoming extremely unsafe for women and children. People dont look out for others as they would for their own anymore. I do dread auto rides in the city now due to my bad back but they are and they will always remain one of my favourite childhood memories.

Naturally I was delighted when I received Fourseven’s Indian Masala charm shaped like an autorickshaw for review. In pure silver with a cubic zirconia stone for the headlight, its the cutest thing I have ever seen. Its strong, surprisingly sturdy and comes with a locking clip just perfect for attaching to a charm bracelet or necklace. You could even add it to your key ring or use it as fancy zip puller for your  LV’s and Chanels.

It arrived wrapped up in a ziplock that went in a cloth pouch, that went in a black box, in tissue paper that went inside a sturdy cardboard box. Wheww!! Opening it was like playing a game by itself.  I wish that they hadn’t used up so many resources for packing one little charm. Hello Landfill!! But I did like that it came along with a little polishing cloth (so important in humid Cities) and that it had a hand written note which is uncommon in Indian circles..

I am still chalking out my plans for the charm. I am not a bracelet person so it would mostly go on a necklace coupled with a few beads, maybe with a splash of yellow patina paint to make it realistic. Maybe! What do you think that I should do with it, do tell me for I am open to reading your quirky suggestions 🙂
As of now, I am signing off with the Disclosure  that the charm was received for review, this is not a paid post but a trip down the memory lane sort of a post 😀
PS: Post dedicated to the girls bunch who rode together everyday and to Gnanashekaran sir (our dear Auto Kaarar) who was so patient, entertaining and above all totally chilled out.
I hope you find it interesting
Cheers
