Pic of the Month – the beauty of Light

Wishing you all a very very Happy Diwali!!
May the light from the lamps (Deepaoli) fill your lives with happiness, wisdom and love…!!

As its time for pic of this month – I present to you all a picture that I took during our Navratri Golu Celebrations at home. Navratri is a 9 day long festival which celebrates the feminine power or shakti. In south India, especially in our family, we celebrate the festival by arranging dolls made of wood, clay and other materials based on a theme to depict a story. Our this year’s theme was Light.  A story telling based on different sources of light – natural light sources like sun, moon, stars, fire to man made traditional n modern lights, light as god, light related poojas and festivals across religions.
Now for the pic
Titled – The beauty of light
Location – Chennai, Tamil Nadu,
Camera – Canon EOS 550D
Type – Object Photography

The object of this pic of the month is an idol of Goddess Jyothi that I made using a silver lamp called a kuthu vilakku (Shown at right). I created the body using some fabric and stitched the clothes and tiny jewelry on it to create the figure. I made the hands using pencil caps and painted them gold to match with the face. The face is store bought.
I thought that this pic was perfect for Diwali…After researching for this them I realised that there is nothing more beautiful than Light and a celebration of that brings a lot of happiness

Let us celebrate the glory of light.

Have a Safe & Fun Filled Diwali
Cheers
